The legendary host and organizer of the Fest for Beatles Fans, Mark Lapidos, talks about the upcoming Fest in Chicago on this week’s lively edition of Things We Said Today, the weekly, premiere Beatles roundtable. The conversation starts flowing tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 4, at 9 pm ET on Pure Pop Radio.
This year’s Chicago Fest takes place Friday, August 14; Saturday, August 15; and Sunday, August 16 just outside of Chicago at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois. During tomorrow night’s program, Mark takes Ken, Steve, Al and Allan on a tour of the Chicago Fest’s scheduled happenings that guarantee a splendid time for all.
This looks to be a particularly exciting Fest with some spectacular, marquee guests. In the spotlight this year are Bob Eubanks, famous as the original host of the Newlywed Game, but also famous for producing the Beatles concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in 1964 and 1965. One of the very cool events at this year’s Fest will be a feature called The Beatleywed Game (an idea that was suggested by a frequent guest on Things We Said Today, Tom Frangione).

Also appearing at this year’s Chicago Fest is none other than one of the legendary personality deejays from the golden age of music radio, Dick Biondi, who ruled the roost at WLS in Chicago. Biondi was the first deejay to play the Beatles in the United States. That’s not all: More special guests abound: The Hollies’ Terry Sylvester, who also played with the Swinging Blue Jeans; Jack Oliver, former president of Apple; super musician and producer, Mark Hudson; and Things We Said Today’s own Al Sussman. All this, plus the great Beatles tribute band Liverpool, featuring Glen Burtnik, and Burtnik’s current group, the Weeklings, whose debut, Beatles-centric album is exploding all over the airwaves, and especially here at Pure Pop Radio.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear about all of the exciting events planned for this year’s Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans, being held at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, just outside of Chicago, in just under two weeks from now. Tomorrow night’s edition of Things We Said Today is another great show that Beatles fans will not want to miss.
Things We Said Today is a weekly survey of all things Beatles that is hosted by a quartet of Beatles experts–today’s Fab Four, if you will. Ken Michaels, host of Every Little Thing, is joined by Beatlefan Executive Editor Al Sussman, Steve Marinucci (Beatles Examiner), and Allan Kozinn, longtime music critic. Other well-known Beatles experts sometimes sit in with the core group. Things We Said Today is changing its time slot next week–listen in for the latest episodes on Thursday nights at 8 pm ET, beginning August 13.
