Ken Michaels, Steve Marinucci, Al Sussman and Allan Kozinn are at the ready with their picks for the biggest miracles realized during the Beatles’ career. Al starts off the discussion by remembering an article he wrote for Beatlefan magazine. The article zeroed in on the Summer of 1969 and the events that changed our world, such as the first landing on the moon, achieved by Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins; the outdoor music festival that changed everything, Woodstock; and the Miracle Mets, who won the World Series that year.
Also happening in 1969, as Beatles fans will know, was the release of the classic album Abbey Road. Al talks about how the album was recorded amidst much group tension and turned out to show the group at the height of their collective powers. The rest of our experts agree with Al; Allan remarks that side two is the album’s top draw. Steve offers that he doesn’t “know how many times I’ve cranked up that drum solo.” Ken suggests that it is a miracle that the songs on Abbey Road’s second side sound so good together, despite not being conceived as such.
