Tonight’s Special Friday Night Edition of Things We Said Today Pays Tribute to Cilla Black

the-beatles-things-we-said-todayTonight at 8 pm ET (5 pm PT), during a very special Friday edition of the weekly Beatles roundtable, Things We Said Today, the life of singer and British TV personality Cilla Black is celebrated by the show’s regular panel of experts.

cilla blackAs most Beatles fans will remember, Cilla Black, who passed away on August 1 at her home in Spain, spent more than 50 years as a singer and television star in Britain. She famously recorded songs written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, including “Love of the Loved” and “Step Inside Love,” and was the only female member of the Brian Epstein stable of artists. The Beatles first knew her as the cloak room girl at the Cavern., where, of course, the group rocked the house.

Tributes from McCartney, Ringo Starr and others, including Julian Lennon, have been seen in the days following Black’s passing. During the first half of tonight’s show, Ken Michaels, Steve Marinucci, Al Sussman and Allan Kozinn talk about Cilla’s Beatles connections and where people can go to hear her music. The extended segment is a general, loving celebration of the life of one of the great singers of the sixties and beyond.

Would the Beatles have the same impact in today’s marketplace as they did in the ’60s? Ken, Steve, Al and Allan tell all. This is yet another in a long line of fascinating discussions to be heard on this show.

Things We Said Today is a weekly survey of all things Beatles that’s hosted by a quartet of Beatles experts–today’s Fab Four, if you will. Ken Michaels, host of Every Little Thing, is joined by Beatlefan Executive Editor Al Sussman, Steve Marinucci (Beatles Examiner), and Allan Kozinn, longtime music critic. Other well-known Beatles experts sometimes sit in with the core group. Remember that Things We Said Today is changing its time slot next week–listen in for the latest episodes on Thursday nights at 8 pm ET, beginning August 13.
