Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation Podcasts: Goran Hjertstedt (Airdate: May 30, 2018)

The Grand Leve’s Göran Hjertstedt was my very special guest on Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation on May 30. This show was, in fact, the second of two, back-to-back episodes broadcast that evening.

TGL-RecoveredGöran, formerly of Pure Pop Radio favorite band Longplayer and now the creative force behind the Grand Leve, has produced yet another marvelous mix of melodic pop and roll, performed by Göran, Ulf Holmberg (ex-Longplayer), and Ian Haugland, the drummer for Swedish rockers Europe.

Grand melodies abound in this new collection, a must for fans of melodic pop music. Göran and I talked about the Grand Leve, and surveyed his musical journey from his time in the hit pop band Visitors to his work with Ian in Brains Beat Beauty and his time with Ulf in Longplayer and, subsequently, the Longplayer Orchestra.

During this hour-plus program, we played songs from Visitors, Brains Beat Beauty, Longplayer, and, of course, the Grand Leve. Göran related the stories behind these terrific numbers (click on the links to listen to samples):

You can, and should, purchase the Grand Leve’s debut album at Amazon.

Colin Moulding, ex-and-for-all-time-XTCer visited with me on Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation on February 7 for an hour-long chat about Great Aspirations, the EP he recently released with also-ex-and-for-all-time-XTCer Terry Chambers under the group name TC&I (Colin is the “I”!). During the program, Colin talked about working again with Terry after a long layoff; recording the EP in his garage; and three of his new songs, including the pure pop smash “Scatter Me,” the lovely “Greatness (The Aspiration Song),” and the pop-rocker “Kenny.”

Colin goes in-depth on all of this and more during one of our top shows of the year, now available for listening and downloading from our podcast page.

Brett Harris In Conversation Interview Posted on PodOmatic Podcast Page… Plus, Brett Live!

brett harris 2My in-depth interview with singer-songwriter Brett Harris is now available for listening and downloading from Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation’s PodOmatic podcast page.

PrintBrett’s new album, Up in the Air, is a fantastic collection of wonderfully realized pop songs. We’ve been playing Brett on Pure Pop Radio for awhile; I’m happy to have him in the interviewee’s seat.

Up in the Air is an album you’ll want to be playing in your home and on the go. This is nothing less than a terrific collection of 10 wonderful pop songs delivered with skill and heart.

brett harris guitar 2tree hourse lounge 1Brett played songs from Up in the Air and across his catalog during his wonderful set performed this past Friday night, February 26, at Washington, D.C.’s Tree House Lounge. A converted row house only a hop, skip and a short jump from local eatery Sicilian Pizza, Tree House’s stage is situated on the second floor. The venue is notable for its policy of setting sound levels based on the vocalist’s volume. This is the first time in recent memory I can remember being able to make out every word being sung. Hats off to the Lounge.

brett harris guitar 2brett harris guitar 4As you can see from the photos, Brett is completely invested in his songs, all of which were delivered with strong conviction. Accompanied by his deft acoustic guitar playing, he sang his heart out. My wife and I were tremendously affected by his performance.

Artists and music fans alike will tell you that it is important to get out of the house and go see and hear music performed. I second that emotion; there is nothing like seeing a performer, fully invested in their songs, connect with people. Brett is a very special performer, surely going places as he makes his mark on tour and on record. Don’t miss Brett’s new album, Up in the Air, releasing this Friday, March 4, listen to and/or download my interview with him, and check his website for his upcoming live dates.
