TONIGHT: We kick off a two-week world radio premiere spin of two tracks from The Greek Theatre’s Kool Kat Musik CD debut, Broken Circle

We’ve added hundreds of new and new-to-you tracks to our playlist in the last few weeks. We’re excited to be bringing you the latest and greatest melodic pop music in the universe, 24-hours a day.

the greek theatre broken circleWe’re also excited to exclusively be bringing you, for the next two weeks, the world radio premieres of two tracks from The Greek Theatre’s smashing, forthcoming first-time CD release of their album Broken Circle on Kool Kat Musik. Previously released on vinyl in a limited edition by Sugarbush Records, Broken Circle is a mind-tripping, mesmerizing melange of psychedelia and melodic substance.

Pure Pop Radio-friendly tracks “Stray Dog Blues” (with a hint of Van Dyke Parks seasoning) and “Lost Out at Sea” marry Pink Floydian ambiance with Harpers Bizarre shading. There is atmosphere to spare in these recordings; uniquely, they sound as though they could have been on any mid- to late-period Floyd album and, in an alternate world scenario, would have been welcome as bonus tracks on really any Harpers long player.

Listen for Swedish psych masters The Greek Theatre’s “Stray Dog Blues” and “Lost Out at Sea” playing exclusively on Pure Pop Radio for the next two weeks. Thanks go out to Kool Kat’s Ray Gianchetti for the opportunity to share these great tracks with the world on an exclusive basis.

Whimsical Ray Paul Guests on Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation

ray paul promo shotThe first in a series of new Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation episodes rolls this coming Monday, April 11, at a special time: 9 pm ET (6 pm PT). And the message is clear: Ray Paul, record maker, is back.

Sixteen years after releasing his ace compilation CD, The Charles Beat, and 36 years after the album Go Time, from Ray Paul and RPM, made its way into the world, one of pop music’s biggest supporters is once again a recording artist: Ray Paul’s smashing album of new material, Whimsicality, is set to release on July 8 on the reactivated Permanent Press label.

RayPaul_Whimsicality-FinalFrontCover-HR-for website sizedJuly 8, the release date for Whimsicality, is three months away, but the celebration begins now: Ray talks to Alan Haber on a special edition of Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation this coming Monday night, April 11, at 9 pm ET (6 pm PT). But that’s not all…As of today, Pure Pop Radio is exclusively playing all 10 tracks from Whimsicality in rotation. We couldn’t be more excited.

During this show, Ray goes in-depth as he guides listeners through Whimsicality’s mix of originals and choice covers, such as the Grass Roots’ “Temptation Eyes.” He talks about the many well-known guests playing on the album, familiar names all–Emitt Rhodes, Klaatu’s Terry Draper, Walter Clevenger, the Grip Weeds’ Kurt Reil, and the Doughboys’ Gar Francis among them. Plus, you’ll hear three songs from the album.

ray paul head and hairRay is going on the road to promote Whimsicality, playing a number of shows in Rochester, New York and two high-profile festivals: the upcoming Power Popaholic Fest in Brooklyn, New York, and this summer’s Los Angeles leg of International Pop Overthrow. Don’t miss a fun hour with a man who has worn many hats in the world of pop music: label owner, promoter of artists to radio, and now, once again, artist in his own right. It’s Ray Paul on Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation this coming Monday at a special time: 9 pm ET (6 pm PT). A Whimsical time is guaranteed for all!

Featuring the considerable talents of Liar’s Club’s Scott McPherson; the great singer and songwriter Andrea Perry; the Corner Laughers’ not-so-secret weapon KC Bowman; and Vanilla’s Kirk Adams, Pop 4 is the melodic pop supergroup of 2015. Their hall-of-fame-worthy album, Summer, releasing soon, is destined to appear on many best-of lists this year.

pop 4“Don’t You Be Like That” is a luscious mid-tempo ballad painted with a harmony-soaked brush and the sweetest, most seductive melody we’ve heard in a very long time. The combination of enticing lead vocals from Andrea, Kirk and Scott; a middle-eight sent from nowhere less than heaven, and a subtle, George Harrison-esque electric guitar run come together to produce a song that will stay with you long after you’ve heard it. And, trust us–you’ll want to hear it again, and again, and again still.

“Don’t You Be Like That” is one of the catchiest songs we’ve heard in ages. Don’t miss the album from which it comes when it drops later this summer which, by the way, is now officially our favorite season of this year.

Don’t miss the exclusive worldwide radio premiere of Pop 4’s “Don’t You Be Like That” tonight, July 14, at 8 pm ET on Pure Pop Radio! And stay tuned after the Pop 4 premiere for more of the greatest melodic pop music in the universe, streaming to you 24-hours-a-day. We thank you!
