paint can yellow

Coming tomorrow morning at 11:45 am EST: a bright and cheery and fun and jubilant brand-new coat of paint. And a super-duper, vaguely “electric” prize giveaway.

Tomorrow is going to be one of those days where you search high and low for just the right piece of paper to jot down exactly where you where when.

wow-4Someone you know and love will no doubt, at some point in the future, ask where you were when the fine folks at purepopradio.com unveiled, right before your eyes, the full-of-fun and sunny-like-the-brightest-day-ever cheery new coat of paint that will light up the pages of your favorite website celebrating the joy that melodic pop music brings to one and all. We think you’re going to say “Wow!”

can of paintWell, it’s possible. Maybe even probable. You may think us a bit giddy for kvelling over our new coat of paint, coming tomorrow morning at 11:45 am EST, but give us what we’re sure will go down in history as our day of jubilee (think about a strikingly similar moment in the faux life of faux-Communications Director Toby Ziegler and his right-hand-man Sam Norman Seaborn that was depicted in the West Wing episode “Six Meetings Before Lunch.”)

shiny light bulbNot only is tomorrow our day of jubilee–I mean, wait until you see our new coat of paint!–but it’s the day when we celebrate said new coat of paint–our day of jubilee, just like Toby and Sam!–by giving away arguably our biggest prize of the year…one that is vaguely “electric”!

11-45 amSo be here tomorrow morning at 11:45 am EST with, as some might say, bells on, or at least the kind of clothing you would wear for a kind of cyber-riffic new-coat-of-paint-esque celebration centered upon the unveiling of our brand-new, full-of-fun, sunny-like-the-sunniest-day-possible, full-of-joy coat of paint. And a vaguely-“electric” prize. That you could win!

Tomorrow!

Win Coke Belda 3 (Gs): A Tribute to the Bee Gees CD

By Alan Haber – Pure Pop Radio alan 5 small

coke belda 3gs cover for websiteCoke Belda 3 (Gs): A Tribute to the Bee Gees is a loving embrace of the quality songwriting and performances that the Brothers Gibb came to be, and still are, known for. The album’s dozen tracks are performed Coke Belda-style, which is to say that Coke has melded his acute pop sensibilities with the magic of some of melodic pop music’s greatest songs.

Choosing from well-known Brothers Gibb tracks and those that are perhaps less-known and underappreciated, Coke has delivered one of this year’s best albums. Played entirely by Coke, with vocal assistance from Gretchen Wheel’s Lindsay Murray, and mastered elegantly by former Merrymaker Anders Hellgren, Coke Belda 3 (Gs) is a marvel.

We have two sealed copies of Coke Belda 3 (Gs): A Tribute to the Bee Gees to give away. Simply fill in the form below–be sure to include your email address and type “Coke” in the Comment field–for your chance to win. Entries must be received by this Saturday, September 30 at noon ET. U.S. residents only.

Good luck!

Special Contest: Win June and the Exit Wounds’ “a little more Haven Hamilton, please” on Vinyl, with Bonus EP

alanhaberspurepopradiographiclarge1-wp headerenter-to-win-kid

june and the exit wounds vinyl photoBack at the tail end of the 1990s, a veritable lifetime ago it seems, Todd Fletcher, working with popster Ellis Clark, perhaps best known to Pure Pop Radio followers as a member of Epicycle, fashioned a lovely, genre-defining album of luscious, melodic, classic harmony-filled soft pop under the perhaps unlikely name June and the Exit Wounds.

The 1999 album, titled “a little more Haven Hamilton, please,” delivers a whole lot of joy with its aural allusions to, most especially, Todd Rundgren’s Something/Anything? phase and the Beach Boys and the Big Dish and Danny Wilson and, likely, countless other masters of melodic excellence. The first song, the very Rundgren-esque soft popper “How Much I Really Loved You,” tells you all you need to know. It’s gorgeous through and through.

As is the entire album. Back in 1999, when “a little more Haven Hamilton, please” was released by Parasol Records, Pure Pop Radio received a number of vinyl copies, which was accompanied by a vinyl EP that contains two demos of songs not on the album. I recently discovered these in our archives; one of them can be yours.

No soft pop collection is complete without this album. On vinyl, it’s quite a catch. To enter, simply fill out the form below–be sure to include your email address and type “June” in the Comment field–and send it on its way.

Entries must be received by this Friday, August 4 at 6 pm ET. One entry per person. Only US residents, this time around. Good luck!
