Classic servings of vintage tunes, and vintage video coming in September, are the hot buttons in the spotlight on this week’s specialty shows being broadcast on Pure Pop Radio.
This Wednesday night, June 29, at 8 pm ET, musician Brian Bringelson delivers what is arguably his best Needle Meets Vinyl episode yet; 16 songs from 15 spectacular artists make the grade, all spun from vinyl and curated by the Anchor and Bear singer-songwriter.
Songs from Iron & Wine, Steely Dan, Dusty Springfield, Jackie Wilson, the Doors, Paul and Linda McCartney and the Beach Boys will fill your ears with joy, and Brian’s expert commentary will raise the proceedings to the highest of highs. It’s a program you won’t want to miss.
Needle Meets Vinyl is the weekly show during which all songs are played from vinyl records. The music spans the decades during which popular music has flourished. Curated and presented by Brian Bringelson, a member of the band Anchor and Bear and a solo artist under the name Paul Starling, the show airs every Wednesday night at 8 pm ET.
This Thursday night, June 30, our regular panel of Beatles experts says goodbye to the sixth month of the year with another timely, Fab discussion, this time talking about director Ron Howard’s upcoming Beatles music documentary, Eight Days a Week, which rolls out in theaters this September and settles in on the Hulu streaming network directly after.

Richard X. Heyman joins Alan Haber on Pure Pop Radio: In Conversation to talk about his re-realization of his classic Hey Man! album, released in 1991 and celebrating its 25th anniversary. The new versions of these great songs exhibit deeper bass and a wider stereo sound field. Many of the instrumental parts are new. It’s a fantastic listening experience (we’re playing all of the new versions of these songs in rotation on Pure Pop Radio).
During the program, Richard talks about the making of the original Hey Man!, starting from his signing to Sire Records and moving on through the making of the album, its release, and initial reception among the media. The group’s smashing new album, One Hyde Park, is in the spotlight (three songs will be spun). Go inside the making of the album with Willie Dowling, Jon Poole and Givvi Flynn. And learn all you can, as it were, about Level 42! It’s another rousing program, sure to make you smile!
This year’s New York edition of the annual Fest for Beatles Fans happens just eight days from now: April 15-17, at the Hilton Westchester hotel in Rye Brook, New York. Mark talks about the many guests on tap, including Peter Asher (Peter and Gordon); Billy J. Kramer, who will be performing new songs with his band and world-premiering his new book; Mike Pender, a founding member of the Searchers; and Chad and Jeremy, who will be sharing a stage with Mr. Asher.
Mark also talks with our panel of Beatles experts about other guests scheduled to appear at the Fest, from George Harrison’s sister Louise to musician Mark Hudson. He also reveals the Beatles album he would take to a desert island, and his favorite Fab song. It’s another not-t0-be-missed show, airing tonight at 8 pm ET (5 pm PT) here on Pure Pop Radio.
